When I got sent this DVD from ‘The Range’ my initial reaction was ‘... is this going to be similar to the range of ‘Dynamic’ series of DVDs from Magpul?’ I really like and enjoyed watching all the Magpul Dynamics DVDs and it made me really want to do one of their courses but these Panteao Production Training videos are great because they are simply just that... a straight forward no flash educational training DVD. After and actually while watching the DVD, I wanted...no needed to get my carbine and actually get hands on while watching.  This DVD feels like and well ...actually is a one on one tutorial with Travis Haley. I wanted to get stuck in and try what he was doing before I forgot but then I remembered that this was a DVD and I can replay this as many times as possible until I fully understand and get it. Luxury.

Travis gives instructions in a very clear and precise manner which is very easily understood and remembered and his demonstrations are mind blowingly cool to watch and an inspiration.

The title of the DVD ‘Adaptive carbine’ really explains the gist of the DVD. Travis reiterates over and over again the mental aspects to being a shooter and the word ‘Adaptive’ is crucial. To sum it up (my interpretation and I hope I got it right), A shooter can have excellent training but if he allows the training to entirely dictate his reaction and actions then the outcome will not be good, however if the shooter is ‘adaptive’ and uses his excellent training as tools to be used at the right time and place yet being flexible, then excellence is the only result.

Conclusion:
I have watched many training DVDs in the past, good ones and really bad ones and I would rate this as one of the best and a must have in your DVD library. It is a valuable training aid and I have definitely learnt alot from this DVD. Now gotta go SHOOT!

TRAINING - ZERT

ZERT stands for 'Zombie Eradication Response Team'

This is a really novel idea. A firearms training school in the USA primarily for civilians hence the light heartedness of the context. Many Firearms training courses are targeted towards home defense or competitive shooting or military / law enforcement applications. Well... this school.. well its training for getting rid of Zombies. It reminds the shooter that shooting is FUN at the end of the day and if you want to apply what they teach to other 'serious' applications then by all means but have while you are with ZERT lets kick Zombie ass and have some fun.

LIVE FIRE - Some basic tips from Max Michel Team Sig Sauer

Get the fundamentals right and everything else follows.

TRAINING - Chris Costa has left Magpul Dynamics

Info and pics courtesy of Gear Scout.

“The future of Magpul Dynamics is not in question,” said Magpul Industries VP of sales and marketing, Robert Vidrine “but we are evaluating how we will go forward with the carbine training model. Replacing Chris is not plug and play.”
...
Chris will be moving on in early 2012 to pursue new projects within the industry, including his own training company. Magpul will continue to explore future opportunities to work with Chris, and looks forward to these projects. It has been a privilege to work with Chris for the last five years, and Magpul wishes him the best of luck in the future. The fundamentals of Reality, Consistency, and Efficiency that Chris helped instill are central to the entire Magpul Dynamics instructor cadre, and will continue to drive their training philosophy and mindset."

In this same year. Travis Haley (ex CEO magpul Dynamics) has also left Magpul Dynamics. I wonder how much this will affect and change the Magpul Products without the input or these 2 legends.

The company that Chris Costa has set up is Costa Ludus. The Latin word ludus has several meanings within the semantic field of "play, game, sport, training" .

LIVE FIRE - This is IDPA!

For those who do not know. IDPA stands for 'International Defensive Pistol Association'.

IDPA as a sport is quite simply the use of practical equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated “real world” self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in IDPA events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for self-defense use. No “competition only” equipment is permitted in IDPA matches since the main goal is to test the skill and ability of an individual, not his equipment or gamesmanship. HISTORY - Olympic Shooting

Bit of history of the Olympic Sport of Shooting.
Came across this in my meanderings. Thought it interesting.

Quote from http://www.olympics.org.uk

History

Shooting dates back to the Middle Ages, St Sebastianus Shooting Club in Cologne, Germany was formed in 1463. The Olympic disciplines of skeet and trap stem from "clay pigeon" shooting which has been a popular sport since the late 18th Century.

Olympic History

Shooting has appeared on every Olympic program except St Louis 1904 and Amsterdam 1928. The number and variety of events have changed many times over the Olympiads.
Men’s Shooting was one of the nine sports on the programme of the first Olympic Games of modern times in Athens in 1896. In the Paris Games in 1900, live pigeons were used as moving targets; this was eventually considered unethical and unsporting, so after 1900 the pigeons were replaced with clay targets (‘clay pigeons’). The women’s Shooting disciplines were first included in the Los Angeles 1984 Games.
From Mexico City 1968, women started competing with men in a number of Olympic shooting events. The first woman medallist was Margaret Murdock from the United States in the small-bore rifle (three positions) at Montreal 1976. Murdock finished second to countryman Lenny Bassham after a count-back. A limited number of women’s events were first included at Los Angeles 1984. Until Barcelona 1992, women were still permitted to compete in those events that were not included in their program. From Atlanta 1996, the Olympic shooting program has been segregated.

LIVE FIRE - Remington ACR evolution

Real Steel News :
It looks like the Remington ACR  5.56 has further evolved.
The ACRs have always been like Marmite... Either you like it or you don't and with this new evolution.. well... its the same. Have a look and make up your own mind.... we at Shooting Stuff LIKE this new change.

AIRSOFT - New Tokyo Marui Pistol.

Tokyo Marui airsoft has released a new M9 version based on the ever popular computer game 'Resident Evil'. On the airsoft shooting side of things it looks very promising as it has a extended mag which holds more gas and bbs and the compensator allows for installation of a longer inner barrel if it does not already come with one. Longer inner barrel for accuracy and bigger mag for better gas pressure. Looks like a must buy.
